SUAI Engineering School develops a new Aerogibrid UAV

Employees and students of the Engineering Garage of the SUAI Engineering School presented a new project – an "Aerogibrid" unmanned aerial vehicle

The project has the name "OWL" and is modeled in a computer-aided design system. The model differs from its analogues in a unique shape: the parabolic leading edge and the special shape of the bearing fuselage allow reducing the load on the bearing surfaces. Such a constructive solution allows to improve the aerodynamic properties of the device. The reduced weight of the aerogibrid increases the duration of the flight and its maneuverability in free space.

The body of the aircraft is made on the basis of composite materials. The use of the topological optimization method made it possible to achieve unique strength characteristics of the model while reducing its mass.

– The concept of this aircraft is no longer a novelty – its main feature is its aerodynamic properties. Our idea is to make the most compact UAV with an increased payload. In this case, the aerodynamic scheme of a "flying wing" with a supporting fuselage is more appropriate than ever, and the properties of vertical takeoff and landing make the aerogibrid mobile and multifunctional, shared the creator of the project Nikita Kazantsev.

It is assumed that the future device will be used for aerial photography of infrastructure facilities and small areas of territories, as well as for the delivery of solid small-sized cargo. It will be able to make autonomous take-off and landing, move along a predetermined route, performing assigned tasks at various stages of the flight.
